    Hey Christine,

This tool is called fen gui http://www.feng-gui.com/about.htm . This tool uses algorithms do determine what they eye see’s in the first five seconds of visiting the site. Let me try and explain how the math works.

A lot of what is determined is done so by measuring contrast; extreme contrast as you know is black and white. Contrast is very powerful as it attracts the eye and with the information carefully laid out it makes it easier on the eye to navigate your page.

The eyes, like anything else, can get tired and if they have to look hard to find what they want, then it’s obviously more work. Online, folks do not have much patience, especially when they know what they want and it becomes even more frustrating when they cannot get to what they want easily.
The real important word is “EASY”

Let’s say you were building an offline retail business, the first thing you would need to do is get your store organized and laid out properly so people can navigate your store and find what they need.

Secondly have you ever noticed that supermarkets constantly change their store layout, they do this so that every time you come in you cannot go to the same aisles and get what you need, they prefer if you see something that is not on your shopping list and purchase it. In other words they like impulse buying.

Additionally they always put more candy at the register so when you’re waiting in line with your children, the little ones start screaming, can I get one of those. LOL

The bottom line is this, you want your visitor to have a good experience on your site, you want them to be able to get to what they need and now and again you may want them to purchase a little extra.

This can only ever happen if they have a good experience, online, good experience equals good content, valuable information that makes sense and can provide tangible results.

Unlike the supermarket you won’t be changing stuff around all the time, but one thing you will need to do is to be constantly testing your landing pages to see which layout gets the best results.

Remember results do not just apply to you, it also signifies that you visitor did business with you and they did business with you because you got them what they want.

    Hope that makes sense,

By the way we are considering adding to this application, so if you have ideas of what additional information you would like to get from this tool let us know.

    Best Wishes
    Paul
